Our well-known Jumping Goat vineyard located in the AVA of St. Helena was harvested later in 2016 than the previous year. A beautiful growing season yielded spectacular quality. The wine aromatically boasts lush, bright raspberry fruit along with cloves, crushed rock and its signature perfumed characters. Superbly creamy and layered, there is amazing freshness and tension to the wine and it is simultaneously very seductive and strong. ~ Philippe & Cherie Melka, Proprietors
This wine has our most loyal following and it is no surprise as to why. Similar to the Graves region in Bordeaux, the wine is consistently perfume, with many layers that are so signature of the Jumping Goat vineyard. The nose is inviting, intriguing and intense boasting seductive dark cherry with hints of tar and oak. It is an extremely lush and balanced wine with savory layers which finishes long with superbly grainy tannins. The higher percentage of Petit verdot adds freshness and acidity to create a truly harmonious and complex wine.

The 2013 vintage will most likely go down in history as one of the best for the Napa Valley and this site, despite the grandness of the vintage, has stayed true to its style that is inherent from this vineyard. So much like the Graves area in Bordeaux, the wine is perfumy, layered and rich without being overripe. Aromatics of dark fruit, plum and spice with notes of chocolate and violet are made prevalent in a wine that exhibits denseness, opulence and softness. There is almost a merlot-ish quality to the wine even though it represents only 5% of the blend. A stunning wine with too many nuances to describe, a must have for any collector.

With the 2012 harvest being nothing short of spectacular, the resultant Jumping Goat is clearly the most robust wine we’ve produced from this river bench vineyard. The aromatics exhibit dark fruit with cassis and black cherry, crushed rocks, anise along with hints of sweet oak. This well-structured wine expresses the vineyard marvelously with more overall minerality and great acidity. The length and finesse that show through the finish are a clear example of how a superbly crafted wine can demonstrate dark fruit expression, structure, brightness and still retain its elegance.
